BioThere were footprints in the dirt. Your bootprints, of course. But they twined and intersected with other prints. Prints of strangers. And briefly, my own prints as well. But as I watched, the indifferent wind and the hapless leaves swirled over the prints, wiping them smooth again. It would be as if this night had never happened. As if our half-hour as friends and soulmates had not existed.
I'd turned then, in the oppsite direction, towards my own home in this strange city. The bench lay forgotten, the leaves inconsequential. But my memory of the moment, of a possibility never explored, remained.
I can't remember exactly what happened, but I remember you. Very clearly.
